Benefits of Mediation
Mediation is a lower conflict and more cost effective way to reach resolutions.
Lower conflict
Family mediation is usually a more amicable way for people to resolve disagreements and reach decisions during divorce and separation. Couples only have a limited number of options available to provide the help they can need, and mediation is usually the most amicable. Other options, such as doing everything through solicitors, arbitration, or Court, naturally put people as opponents, which can increase conflict and decrease communication. Mediation allows people to work together to reach a resolution with the help of the mediator.
Costs
If separating and divorcing couples need some help with reaching an agreement, mediation is usually the most cost effective option. We charge a fixed cost for the individual and joint meetings, so the cost is known beforehand. Other options such as doing everything through solicitors or being represented by solicitors through the Court process can cost tens of thousands of pounds. Sometimes solicitors and Courts are necessary and unavoidable, but we want to help people avoid it where possible.
Control
In mediation meetings there will usually be you, your ex-partner and the mediator. You therefore remain in control of what you are prepared to agree to and compromise on. When people go to Court or arbitration the decision about future arrangements for their children or financial arrangements is handed over to someone else.
