Who We Help
We help separating and divorcing couples make decisions about how to divide their finances and we help parents make decisions about arrangements for their children.
Divorcing couples
We work with divorcing couples who need help reaching an agreement on how to divide their finances. Help might be needed for all sorts of reasons; communication might be difficult, emotions might be running high, help might be needed understanding the finances, especially where one person has taken more of the financial responsibility, or information about the different options might be needed. We can help with all of this.
When it comes to the actual decisions that need to be made, these might be around what is going to happen to the house, where people are going to live, how this will be paid for, what will happen to a business, how much child maintenance might be paid, whether and if so how pensions should be shared. We ask our clients to provide details of all of their financial circumstances so we know what needs to be considered, and then we look at different options and how they work for each person and any children.
We also help our clients decide whether and when to start a divorce, and we can provide information about the process and how to go about this.
Parents
We work with parents who need help reaching an agreement on the arrangements for their children. Sometimes parents have different views on what is best for their children when it comes to the current and future arrangements for them. This usually relates to how much time the children spend with each of them, but could also be about specific issues such as which school children attend or one parent might want to move elsewhere. There might be many reasons why parents need some help with arrangements; talking might quickly descend into arguing, one or both parents might have concerns about the other parent’s care, there might have been previous or current difficulties in the relationship between the parents, or there might be practical reasons making it difficult to reach agreement. Sometimes arrangements might have been agreed previously, but there has been a change in circumstance which has resulted in one parent wanting to change the arrangements. We can help in all of these circumstances.
Unmarried couples
We work with unmarried couples who need to discuss future financial arrangements. This might involve jointly owned property, or one person might feel it would be fair for them to receive a share of a property owned solely by the other. There might also be decisions as to what financial provision should be provided by one parent to the other for the benefit of their children, for example a property or a sum of money for a particular reason. We can help people in all of these scenarios.
